Hello all,

I haven't pulled everything down from Photobucket yet, but now that I'm at imgur (I'm SpiralKat there), I will begin the slow process of rehosting my images.

If you come across a post with broken images on any of my journals on LJ ([livejournal.com profile] kattrip033) or DW ([personal profile] spiralicious or [personal profile] gummiwolf), any of my posts at communities on either site, or any of my fics at AO3 (favicon spiralicious ), drop me a note and I'll fix it asap.

If you don't want to leave me a comment on the post itself that has the issue, I'll link this post on my sitcky on LJ and on DW and you can leave me a comment here with a link to the post.

Thank you

As the date for closing on the house rapidly approaches (still on track, monday!) the realtor and the loan officer and I are all starting to use increasingly short, emoji and exclamation point filled emails back and forth.

"Hi! Please sign and return this page as soon as possible!! [happy emoji]"
"Page attached!! [excited emoji]"
"Got it, thank you!!!"
"Yay!!!!"

I think we're all a little delirious at this point. We might be down to nothing but emojis and strings of !!!!!!!!! by monday.

I'm moving house! If you know me well enough to have my home address and would like the new one, drop me a PM. (Also I changed my surname to [personal profile] cj2017's when gay marriage was legalised, so if you don't know it, ask me.)

My home computer is my only internet access, so I'll probably be offline for a week or two from Friday while the phone line is set up.

During work I keep coming up with things I want to post about, and then when I'm home I'm too lazy and/or tired, similarly often on weekends. No vacation for me until September, most likely, but I told myself to pay attention and take a mental health day if I need it. I haven't been sick yet so I wouldn't feel bad about it.

D&D )

I recently found a book again that I'd searched for for years: "Bloodrights" by N. Lee Wood. I was prepared to be disappointed, but to my happy surprise I still like it a lot. It's harsher than I remembered, especially in regards to the cost of striving for power. The surprising reveal at the end made me look at much of it in a different way and made me like it even more. Yay trope subversion. Spoiler )
I liked Antonya and many of the other characters, and rereading the book now there are several scenes that I now much better understand the id buttons they pushed (esp. Kerrick & Morgan.) Also, something I'd forgotten about which was a nice surprise, queer people exist and are, while not completely normal, not a big deal.

Politics, because it's unavoidable: The current situation in Poland is scary, it shows how easily things like that can happen. That the protests appear to have had some success is encouraging but not more than a silver lining.
There are so many countries were democracy is under attack…
In Austria I'm trying to focus on the push-back against the surveillance program, but I'm scared about the new government after the next election. The outcome seems almost certain and it would be a bad one imo, but as we've recently seen in the UK a lot can change during an election campaign, so we'll see.

It's the last day of my vacation-staycation-weekend.

I went to the State Fair on Tuesday afternoon, and did a quick skim through the various exhibits and the animal barn, had some bad fair food, then saw the Queen cover band, Queen Nation. I've been wanting to see them for a couple of years, but they are usually scheduled for Con*Strict weekend. I did enjoy them, and the crowd singing, but the lead fellow just didn't have a voice as good as Freddie Mercury's. Good to have achieved; don't need to repeat.

I had dinner with one friend on Tuesday at the Old Spaghetti Factory (we both love the mizithra cheese), tea with a group of friends on Thursday afternoon, and dinner at another friend's house on Friday, with the old Whovian gang. It's been good to see people.

I have not done as much as it feels like I could have done, but I've made an effort to be relaxed and not overdo, so I will be happy that I stuck to that promise. I have the sheetrock repair scheduled, which I have been ignoring for several years now, so I'm going to call that a win.

Writing is strange, isn't it? Saturday afternoon, I had that, I'm not going to finish anything significant in the house/chores realm, so I might as well write on this print-out of the second half of The Prequel that I've been carrying around for a couple of months now. I read it over, polished some sentences, added a few here and there, and typed in the changes. It's at 11,848 words, at least halfway through, and I'm very vague about what should happen in the rest of the fic. So I looked at the Qui/Obi I wrote recently, which was 3,600 words, and written in a day and a half. Why can't I do that all the time? Why do some stories take so long?

Did you ever have a time where you kinda drew a line in the sand with a friend, and the friend's reaction was basically, "Okay," and on one hand, you were grateful not to get into a big argument over something that stressed you a lot, but on the other hand, there was a sense of... Huh. I think I wish she'd cared enough to make a token effort to argue. She didn't. I handled that on Friday and still feel unsettled by it.

But one more fun thing today, meeting up with friends to see The Mousetrap. I saw it, several decades ago. I do remember Who Done It, but little else. It'll be good to see it again.

If anyone would have told me in January 2016 that I would have a Disney movie among my all-time favorite movies by the end of the same year, I probably would have laughed that person in the face. Sure, I had seen several Disney movies before (most memorable are "Ice Age 1", "Finding Nemo", and "Cars"), but none of them really had what it takes to get on my list ;) And I really thought that wouldn't change - until last December 25th, when my local TV station decided to air one of the latest big hits: Frozen. I immediately fell in love with the storytelling, the wonderful characters, the music - long story short, with everything this movie has to offer. And I even bought my very first Disney DVD afterwards. This batch was made for [community profile] disney20in20. Enjoy!

New Cat already has a new name - Lap Cat.

I was even sitting with one foot tucked under me and had to adjust because my foot was falling asleep. Usually when an animal is on my lap and I shift, that animal gets huffy and leaps off. But no, Lap Cat adjusted with me. Whenever I need him to get off, he demonstrates that magical ability where a cat becomes boneless and weighs 10 more pounds. He has the lap now and he is not surrendering it!
