Summary: Waving awkwardly at them, Zelda attempted a feeble smile.
It was a heavy stack, but Zelda knew that she'd need every book, if her paper was going to be good enough to earn a passing grade. She'd needed so many different sources that it was a wonder that the campus library had them all, rather than it being necessary to order any on her list. What a relief!
Struggling to balance every book, Zelda walked around the end of a stack--
--only to collide with something solid. Both tumbled to the floor.
"Oh!" Gasping, Zelda sat up. Her books littered the floor, along with several folders and papers.
Those seemed to belong to the blonde man who sprawled just opposite her. He pushed a pair of glasses further up the bridge of his nose, looking somewhat befuddled.
Zelda popped to her feet, quickly trying to gather up her materials. "I'm so sorry! I didn't know there was anyone else coming. Are you alright?"
Shifting into a kneeling position, he worked to pick up his papers, stacking them carefully into each folder. He nodded at her, before putting a finger to his lips. Then, he motioned over his shoulder.
She looked up, blushing. Several students were at the study tables, staring at the couple in varying stages of annoyance.
Waving awkwardly at them, Zelda attempted a feeble smile. "Please excuse me," she murmured, before hurrying quietly away to the furthest corner of the library.
A few desks were tucked away there, far from the prying eyes of those at the main set of tables. Still feeling her cheeks on fire, she sat down at one, and set to work. With any luck, a fresh group would be there by the time she was done, so that there'd be no repeat of the awkwardness that she'd just endured.
But, to Zelda's increasing nervousness, the youth she'd knocked down proceeded to sit at a desk right beside her. Not sparing a glance in her direction, he began studying. Gritting her teeth, Zelda did her best to ignore him, and focus on her own tasks. Perhaps he was hiding from the others, too.
A hand suddenly reached across, setting a small green sticky note on the page that Zelda was trying to read.
It was nice bumping into you, the note read. Let's get coffee.
"What," Zelda whispered, staring at the note. She glanced over to him.
His gaze seemed to be glued to the papers that he was working with. Briefly, he glanced in her direction.
And winked.
